The title of this really says it all. I listen to a lot of shit when I’m working out at the gym, walking around the neighborhood, or driving someplace. Often times, when I’m thinking of a scene, a collection of scenes, or the general tone of story I’m working on, I pick a handful of songs that fit the mood. Here’s what I’ve been listening to a lot lately:
WATCHMAKER—HANDS LIKE HOUSES
VULTURES—ASKING ALEXANDRIA*
OH, HOW THE MIGHT HAVE FALLEN—ALESANA**
FIRST LIGHT—LINDSEY STIRLING
LOSING MY LIFE—FALLING IN REVERSE
KEEP ME CLOSE—BLESSTHEFALL
MADELINE—ALESANA
So. There you have a it. If you take the time to listen to the songs you’ll understand there’s a bit of a theme with them.
*Fun Fact: I got the title of SHADOW TWINS: VULTURES from this song. It was actually hugely inspirational for much of the character work I did.
*Alesana is my absolute favorite band. So you know they’d have at least a song or two on this list.
Stephen King says he listens to loud rock while writing. I can’t do it. Silence for me if I can get it. Movie/TV scores if I need to block out extraneous noise.
Same here. I need to listen to something without lyrics. I usually listen to rainfall or just youtube a nice fantasy music playlist.
